Hearts of Iron II - Master of World War II Strategy
Created by Paradox Interactive, developers of Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron II the second installment of one of the best in the Second World War strategy game series ever. Hearts of Iron II puts you in control of any country that existed between 1936 and 1947. This means that while you can take control of the world, playing as the United States or Germany, also may participate in more conflicts small as Hungary, Argentina and Thailand. What allows you to manage every aspect of your machine from countries at war, Hearts of Iron II is simply one the best strategy games out there.
The game focuses on a primary campaign on a world map that allows you to control any country, and lets you jump worldwide in 1936, 1939, 1941 and 1944, so you can start within your choice. However, Hearts of Iron II, also includes sixteen limited scenarios that represent large campaigns, ranging from the invasion of Poland and the D-Day, the alternative history scenarios, as the invasion of Japan and a war between Brazil and Argentina.
Hearts of Iron II allows complete control over your country of choice. You must balance the resources for importing and trade in the global market. You must use its industrial base not only on weapons of war but also supplies and common goods, to keep its people happy. You can choose which side to ally, or create your own alliance of nations to take over the world. Realism is also frequent, with events occurring almost constantly, informing him of the new political and economic as well as the statements of the war and annexation. While most are historical facts, actions influence what will happen and when, and games never play the same way twice.
Combat itself is simplified, but you should be prepared to beat your enemies. Investigate the technology will add new units, but must use part of its industrial power to update, and maintain a constant supply of reinforcements. Adding to the divisions brigades, the size of the primary unit, give them a better firepower, but must have the correct doctrine to use them correctly. The excavation units and field of use, aircraft bombed the enemy and fight in air, and ships have to fight to keep supply rails open. Using combined arms is the most effective strategy in this very complex and deep game.
In general, Hearts of Iron II is one of my favorites and the best game of its kind out there. Almost anything you want to do can be done, and repetition is almost unlimited. I'm sure I did not do the game justice in this brief review, but I hope I gave you the idea how this game is excellent. While it may take some time to learn everything and get used to the gameplay, Hearts of Iron II is certainly worthwhile.
