A puzzle can provide long-term entertainment and the many benefits promotion of cognitive development of children of all ages.
The puzzle-solving activities can begin at a very early age and continue as children grow. There are puzzles designed just for young children with large puzzle pieces of wood or other durable puzzle games. For toddlers and preschoolers, solving a puzzle helps to improve basic skills such as hand-eye coordination, requiring the relatively small child to manipulate objects and placing objects in specific places.
The benefits may continue in preadolescents, adolescents, and adulthood with more difficult puzzles that require advanced coordination and other benefits. As children grow, they can advance to the puzzle more difficult, including a larger number of smaller parts and more complex color patterns. For older children, solving puzzles games can help develop analytical skills, communication and collaboration, logic and attention to detail.
Puzzle games also improve spatial skills of a child. Solving a puzzle requires the child to visualize a puzzle piece, and then mentally rotate the puzzle piece up 360 degrees to find a precise fit to the piece. This forces the child to stay away from concrete thoughts and into a realm of abstract thinking. You have to imagine the results of shares (in this case, the results of the rotation of a piece of the puzzle) not unlike a chess game.
