What is the best way to preserve and display a suit in a room with poor air?
I live in a small apartment that has a burner oil in a small room within. I have two dresses I would put on the screen, but want to keep. Both were made in recent years. What is the best way to do this, so I do not have to keep carefully stored in a box?
Unless you live in a museum, or may get covered with protective glass for the suits to keep out dust, dirt and nobody can touch them, the truth is that you keep everything well while you are out on the screen. The costumes will be dusty, which will lead to you having to wash, and washing is a great source of wear to the garments. Also in some time will inevitably have an accident in which something is spilled on clothing or someone trips over it and breaks. You may also be sitting in one spot of sunlight, that may go away some materials. The best way to preserve a piece of clothing or other to keep it stored in a protective bag of clothes in one place dark and dry with mothballs to keep out insects. You can make these garments keep a little longer while showing the make sure it is displayed at a place where the sun never shines on them. You might also consider packing during the winter, when you want to have the oil burner on the screen and only during the warmer seasons (I have no idea of where you live to know how long the winter or summer lasts for you, so this might not work for you). Other than that, all I can say is that you may have to choose what is most important to you right now, showing them or preservation. In making this decision, I tried to take into account if they expect to stay where it is long. If there is a possibility he could move into the future, then why not now maintain and show them when and if I ever moved to a better location.
