Connection cable PC-PC?
Saying that I have an old PC with no other viable means of connection to the outside world than an RS232 serial port D9, a keyboard, mouse and monitor. It has MS-DOS 6.22, no floppy, CD-ROM does not Ethernet. Is there a way to get files to the PC via an RS232 cable using only raw DOS? I know I take the hard drive and use it as a slave in another system for transferring then return to the original machine. I'm looking for cable solution. Thanks If there is no native connectivity Support - Is there a simple script that can write in a relatively short space of time? Interlink is looks good as a good solution. Anyway to connect a Linux machine to DOS machine in question?
Try this .... MS-DOS 6.22 DOS program that allows users to send data between computers is called Interlnk (pronounced "interconnection"). This is a file transfer program which essentially allows access to computer hard disk and print functions of other equipment. Not going to let computers talk over the Internet using a modem, or allowed users to run DOS based programs between computers. It is simply a form of data transfer. The first step is to Interlnk is in the Config.sys file. If you are in the file, a file instead of adding to existing Interlnk.exe DEVICE = statement. Type edit config.sys in the C> prompt. In one of the lines in the window text that appears, enter device = c: \ DOS \ interlnk.exe. There will probably be another device = statements in this section to have any kind of pattern to follow. As soon as Interlnk installed, the program will begin looking for the connection to another computer that is running Intersvr.exe, which is the server software. (We of this more in a minute.) Interlnk If the team finds a partner, you will see a screen like this: Microsoft Interlnk Version 1.00 Port = COM1 redirected drive letters: 5 (D: through H:) redirected printer ports: 1 (LPT3:) The DEVICE = C: \ DOS \ Interlnk.exe statement adds half of our double-sided PC Linkup team. This part of the connection will be the client side, a program that depends on another team for a large part of their services. This one is the server. It will most the transformation between the two teams so make sure that both computers can connect, the stronger team is the server. In this PC, you will load the software intersvr server by typing in the C> prompt. You must restart both teams before the software is fully installed. Once the client and server software is loaded, the programs search each other, usually on communications port 1 (COM1). If you connected the serial connector into a port other than COM1 NY, type / COM2 (or any COM port is) at the end of the client device = statement. Comprehensive Customer DEVICE = statement for the new COM port that says "DEVICE = C: \ DOS \ Interlink.exe / COM2. "Software Interlnk One drawback is that the server PC can not do anything while the customer has access to it. The PC server only serves the customer equipment side. This means they can not access files or print from your computer to serve. On the client side, however, you have three new units: D:, E:, F:, which correspond to A:, C:, D: drives on the server. Access them with normal DOS commands. NOTE: You will need a PC to PC serial cable from the Cross.
