
IMac User's Manual
Getting Started 1)
(a) When Unpacking Unpacking the iMac, be sure to hold firmly to the sides. Place on a desk or near the work area where an electrical outlet adequate.
(b) Place the power cord power cord through the hole in the back of the iMac up and connect to the power port. Connect the other end of the cable into the electrical outlet.
(c) Additional elements, the iMac also comes with a keyboard Apple Keyboard, Apple Mighty Mouse and Apple Remote.
- Taking the lead from Apple Keyboard and connect to one of the USB ports on the back of the iMac
- Take Apple wired Mighty Mouse and connect to a USB port on the side of the keyboard
If you have an Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse, see the manual of your mobile installation.
(d) Cable Internet Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of the iMac. Connect the other end of the cable in the case of a modem or network.
Please note that you also have the option of a wireless connection technology Apple AirPort Extreme.
(e) The basic characteristics before starting the note features built-in dock of the iMac. These include:
- a microphone placed at the top
- a camera iSight on top of the screen, along with an indicator light on the camera
- a slot-loading optical drive on the side the iMac
- stereo speakers
- an infrared receiver
- two ports USB 2.0 on the Apple Keyboard
Turning the back of the iMac, there are:
- three USB 2.0 ports
- Ethernet port
- a mini-DVI
- audio in the optical digital audio in port
- A headphone jack / optical digital audio output port
- A one FireWire 400 port
- one FireWire 800 port
- a power port
2) Initial Setup
(a) enabling and setting up Press the power button on the back iMac. Setup Wizard starts automatically. It guides you through all the basic procedures for creating your
- user account
- email account
- Internet connection
Setup Wizard also shows you how to transfer files, applications and other data from an existing Mac. You do not have to make these transfers immediately. Instead, use the Migration Assistant (see "Applications> Utilities) When you're ready to make the information through.
(b) personalization to customize your iMac, using Apple> System Preferences from the menu bar. This is the command center for most configuring your iMac.
(c) Standby or off Put the iMac in sleep mode allows you to avoid the startup procedure the next time you use your machine. To implement sleep, you have a number of options:
- click Apple> Sleep from the menu bar
- press the power button and click Sleep in the dialog box
- click Apple> System Preferences, then Energy Saver and set the timer for
- on the Apple Remote, press and hold Play / Pause for three seconds,
To wake your iMac, you have the option of
- Click the Apple Mighty Mouse
- pressing the power button
- pressing any button on Apple Keyboard Keyboard
- pressing any button on the Apple Remote
Using only dream if you intend to return to your iMac in a day or two. To turn off the iMac, either
- click Apple> Shutdown the system or
- press the power button and click Shut Down in the dialog box
To change your iMac back, press the power button.
3) Quick Guide to Mac OS X
(a) operating system is Mac OS X Leopard operating system your iMac (and all other Mac), and is already installed on your computer. Check your files, applications and connected devices, and works similarly to Windows.
(b) basic controls As expected, the basic controls are the keyboard Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse from Apple. If you're more familiar with Windows, what you find with Mac OS X is that you'll use the keyboard and mouse times less to achieve the same results.
(c) GUI The first thing you notice with Mac OS X is the style of everything that appears on the screen. Mac uses a GUI (graphical user interface) called Aqua. This gives you stunning images of plastic beauty clean cut and effects, all of which Apple has designed Mac OS X easier to use.
(d) Central Features The icons, layouts and navigation of the iMac screens are simple. There are windows, menus, folders and shortcuts. There are four main features to help you remain organized and productive
- Desktop
- Dock
- Search
- Menu bar
Desktop The desktop is a screen normally start each time you use your iMac. The first icon you will pass by here (in the upper right corner) is the Macintosh HD (hard drive). By using different functions of your iMac, other HD icons appear. Double-click an icon to view HD files and applications it contains. Points to note:
- Use the desktop to store files, folders, pictures and documents
- By connecting an external device for the iMac, an icon for appears on the desktop
- If you create different users for the iMac, Mac OS X gives each one a separate desktop
- The desk is always behind the applications that are running
Dock The Dock is a row icon at the bottom of the screen. Use the Dock to access your frequently used folders, applications and windows just click on the appropriate icon. You can customize the icons to suit your application on your iMac. Note that when a window has three buttons in the upper left corner.
- The red button closes the window
- The yellow button minimizes the window to the Dock
- Maximize the green button and minimizes the size of the window
Search one of the icons in the Dock is the Finder on the far left. Use this to navigate and manage almost every aspect of your iMac, such as folders, drives and other applications. There is only one menu bar menu in Mac OS X. It appears as a single line at the top of the screen. Use the menu bar to
- interact with a program
- view and change settings and applications
- Applications close
- View recent work
- log in or out
- start standby
- initiate a restart
- turn the iMac off
The bar menu changes application you are using. In this way, offers the products best suited to the application.
Connectivity 4)
The iMac has a total of five USB 2.0 ports (two on the keyboard, and three in the back of the iMac). Use these to connect your Mighty Mouse Apple's new, more devices, such as your
- iPhone
- iPod
- digital camera
- Printer
- drive
- modem
- joystick
The ports also accept USB 1.1 peripherals. The iMac is pre-loaded with a wide range of drivers. This means that normally recognize the USB device without the need to run additional software. Features 5) Extra
(a) A security slot security slot on the back of the iMac can connect a cable and padlock to deter and prevent thieves.
(b) Access to the memory of your iMac has a standard 1 GB of memory. You can increase this by an additional 3 GB of memory using the access slot in the bottom of the iMac.
(c) AirPort Extreme AirPort Extreme wireless technology, wireless technology lets you connect to a wireless network.
(d), Bluetooth ® The iMac has Bluetooth ® 2.1 + EDR wireless technology. This allows you to connect wireless devices that include
- Bluetooth ® mobile phones
- Printers
- PDAs
- The keyboard Apple Wireless Keyboard and Wireless Mighty Mouse

The Apple iMac, which is the closest thing to (My Pictures) as if you were using a PC?
I save images I'm uploading to my iMac my digital camera but I wonder where I keep them? What is the closest thing to (My Pictures) on Windows XP on the iMac?
Keep them in iPhoto. It will also allow you to edit your photos in any way you want ... while preserving the originals.
