Security issues abound social networking goes to work
Employees use two types of social networking sites. They bring their Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and other identities to the office. At the same time, using professional social networks â € "LinkedIn and other â €" â € For more € œofficialâ functions.
It has the potential to be a major problem. target = "_blank"> This Newsfactor piece based on Forrester research identifies social networking as a key element of the current wave of corporate Web 2.0. In 2013, the company says, social networks are a 2 billion U.S. dollars fragment of what will be an area of 4.6 billion U.S. dollars.
We hope that organizations will be updated on the security front. The article states that only half of Web filters deployed by Barracuda Networks are blocking MySpace or Facebook. Those who are doing is trying to protect against viruses and spyware and maintain employee productivity. It would be interesting to understand how many of these organizations understand that social networking sites are great avenues for phishing and other social engineering exploits, and dishonest employees or ignorant to send vital information beyond the firewall.
This is a pleasant view of the CNN flow of social networks in the enterprise space. What the author doesn € ™ t say is that the evolution of social networks consumer to business use is precisely what happened with cell phones, Wi-Fi and other tools: People in your private life, liked, and took to work. In this case, the writer says, more secure, business-purpose offered. Yammer, for instance, is an enterprise version of Twitter. Other corporate networks rookies social, according to Forrester, include awareness, and Communispace Jive.
One advantage of the fact that new technology has moved from that the consumer business many times in the recent past is that the experts believe that security problems faster. There seems to be a little less negative. href = "http://www.itbusinessedge.com/item/?ci=49053" target = "_blank"> This piece Legal Technology offers a good description of social networks, and refers a Black Hat presentation that analyzed the characteristics of insecurity of social networks and identified the major vulnerabilities. These include cross-site request forgery (CSRF), cross-site scripting (XSS) and the lack of a mechanism to validate the security of client applications. The writer offers seven tips for use with security and management social networks.
This is all theoretical: business people are using social networks â € "and the bad guys are behind them. For example, SPAMfighter cites the Washington Post reports € ™ s Brian Krebs about spear phishing attacks against about 10,000 members of LinkedIn. The story goes that social networking sites are often the target of spear phishers because users are accustomed to receiving email from other members. This e-mail supposedly support@linkedin.com come from and carried the subject line â € SORS: Recipients € contacts.â business following the instructions in the e-mail installed a malicious program aimed at stealing confidential information from the computer.
There is much to worry about. Dark Reading offers a vignette with fear at the site of the danger of a social network can be. The big problem is that there is no way to optimize both security and interactivity. In large measure, emphasizing one comes at the expense of reading. Dark runs through some of the problems, and links to pages that describe in detail seven of the main activities Dangerous impersonation and specific hacks and bots spam, € â € œweaponizedâ applications, XSS and CSRF, identity theft and espionage corporate.

How can you stop spoofing of email on a network?
I'm running Exchange Server 2007 with the anti-spam protection. I am also running your email through a firewall barracuda. I'm still receiving emails through false of (emails that say the sender address is the same as the recipients). Barracuda has not done much to help. Has anyone else found a way to stop these?
I was having the same problem here is what I have configured my settings Anti-Spam Agent for exchange. Depending on your implementation going to set this in the Hub Transport server inside or outside of your Edge Transport server. EMC will have to open and expand the Organization Configuration select Hub Transport and then the Anti-Spam Tab. The setting you want to check is under Sender Reputation. Select the trust check the sender that the box and then select the Action tab. I have this set at 7. I also have the following configuration to the other players. Content Filtering tab action-Reject SCL = or greater than 7. This is high, but I will show you a way to set global spam thus lower SCL users can get the spam to your e-mail folder and if they are valid emails that can keep them. Configure IP enable suppliers and providers from the list of block list. These are useful. Recipient Filtering "Blocked Addresses" Enter the first box. Sender Filtering Tab-Action-reject Sender ID message-Action Tab "This depends on you. You select the message Stamp. To establish the threshold of garbage Organization. This will show the current level. Open the Exchange Management Shell. Get-OrganizationConfig Entry You will see halfway down SCLJunkThreshold and the current value. I own this game a 4. The default is 8. To change the value to enter set-OrganizationConfig-SCLJunkThreshold and value. Note that this can be replaced by a user in Outlook. Most users will not be able to make changes, but some may. Others who are getting hit very hard to be junk e-mail your choices to High. The default is low. Hope this helps.
